I long ago stopped reading books on note-taking…recently I picked up How To Take Smart Notes (affiliate link) by Sönke Ahrens…Instead of squeezing as many pages as possible out of one idea, How To Take Smart Notes squeezes as many ideas as possible onto every page. Every paragraph has a point, and I struggled to leave anything out of this summary.

It’s worth reading several times and taking notes while you do.

Related link: I’ve written about the importance of taking notes to my career. This is an ongoing project for me because it’s so important. We have a flood of information coming at us all the time. We use personal note taking to turn all that information into something valuable. To me, a good note taking system is not just one more tool in the toolbox for an academic. In some sense, your note taking system is your toolbox.
